We are excited to support and empower the next generation of diverse engineering leaders by creating scholarships for both Aotearoa New Zealand
(He Waka Eke Noa Scholarship), and Australia (Emerging Innovator Scholarship).
Our engineering team is at the forefront of the industry, working on great projects nationwide, including large scale healthcare, commercial and residential high-rise buildings, and heritage restoration projects throughout both Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia. We don’t expect you to know everything right off the bat—instead, you’ll be learning alongside our experienced team, and growing your skills from day one. Along the way, you’ll have plenty of fun working with positive, motivated people who love delivering exceptional projects.

He Waka Eke Noa Scholarship (Aotearoa)
TAHi stands for “Together at Holmes initiative” and means ‘as one’ or ‘together’ in te reo Māori. TAHi designed and created the He Waka Eke Noa Scholarship to support talented people from Māori and Pasifika backgrounds and help drive innovation and inspiration in our industry.
Rooted in the whakataukī “He Waka Eke Noa” (we are all in this together), this scholarship is designed for Māori and Pasifika students who would benefit from financial assistance, who actively promote diversity and inclusivity, and demonstrate a sense of shared responsibility for the engineering community and built environment.
Emerging Innovator Scholarship (Australia)
The Emerging Innovator Scholarship is for Australian based applicants, recognises students who embody the spirit of diversity and innovation. Applicants are encouraged to showcase how their unique backgrounds and perspectives contribute to the field of engineering. The winner is eligible for a paid internship in our Sydney office.
Internship
Aotearoa:
The winner of the He Waka Eke Noa Scholarship is eligible for a paid 12-week internship in one of our NZ office locations – Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington, or Christchurch. The internship is optional and not a requirement of the scholarship. Please make sure you provide information on what location you’d like to be based for your internship. We’re considering interns in Auckland, Hamilton Wellington, and Christchurch.
Australia:
The winner of the Emerging Innovator Scholarship is eligible for a paid 12-week internship in our Sydney office.
Scholarship
The recipient of each of scholarship will receive $5,000 to be used in support of their studies. The payment can be used for tuition, books, or equipment required for study.

Eligibility Criteria:
Aotearoa:
Applicants must be NZ citizens or permanent residents and either entering or currently studying towards an Engineering degree.
Australia:
Applicants must be AU citizens or permanent resident, currently in the final year of an undergraduate degree in Engineering and interested in pursuing a Masters in Fire Engineering.
Ensure to include the following information:
- An up-to-date CV/cover Letter
- Academic Transcript
A one-page written document detailing:
1. Why are you interested in engineering and how will the financial assistance benefit you?
2. Tell us a bit about yourself, what’s important to you, and what taking up this opportunity would mean to you?
Application Process:
- Submission of Application: Candidates are required to submit an application outlining the following areas:
- How the financial assistance would be of benefit
- In what way their lived experience contributes to the development of an enhanced engineering industry, community engagement.
- Their passion for engineering, and how they believe diversity, equity, and inclusion contributes to successful engineering outcomes.
- Holmes Panel Review: A panel at Holmes will review applications and focus on the candidate’s unique strengths and qualities. Shortlisted candidates will be invited for interviews.
- Interview and award: Interviews will emphasise the celebration of diversity, encouraging candidate to share their enthusiasm and unique perspectives. The scholarship will be awarded to exceptional candidate who align with Holmes’ commitment to foster and promote diversity of thought.
