Sirius Building

Refurbishment and restoration of the iconic Sirius Building in Sydney’s CBD was undertaken to transform the housing building into luxury apartments. The building was originally built in the 1980s, so a key focus of the redevelopment is to maintain and protect the iconic modular design by restoring the original concrete façade.

The reimagined building consists of a central high-rise tower with mid-rise terraces on either side and welcomes both residents and the community with cafes, commercial spaces, and pocket parks. One of the main challenges for this project was joining the original materials with the new steel structure, whilst complying with the current BCA Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions. Holmes tested the steel structure under exposure to severe realistic fires using finite element heat transfer analysis. Our team were able to demonstrate that the hybrid construction could maintain structural stability under exposure to severe fires.

Holmes worked closely with the structural engineers on this project to work towards the clients fast-paced timeline and achieve the architectural vision.
