Synnex is at the forefront of information technology equipment supply through their logistics arm. Synnex Australia developed a large warehouse and distribution centre in Oakleigh South over three levels. The distribution centre comprises of on-grade loading and unloading logistics hub. The building incorporates office and warehouse areas on Ground Level, Level 1 and Level 2 as well as a 30 m tall Automated Stacker Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) for the intake of palletised goods.
Holmes’ fire engineers provided performance solutions to rationalise the smoke hazard management for the building, utilising the ASRS as a smoke holding area to provide tenable conditions within the occupied warehouse areas. Holmes also provided a bespoke fire safety design for the ASRS, being an area that is only accessed by maintenance personnel on infrequent occasions, and in doing so avoided the need for redundant fire safety systems like fire hose reels and emergency lighting to be provided within this area. Due to the unique nature of the 30 m tall ASRS, Holmes liaised closely with Fire Rescue Victoria to understand their requirements for firefighting in the event that a fire did occur in this high racking area.
